The Tides May Turn

With only a few more days left in the poll, Gotye is coming in strong with double the amount of votes that Marty Robins has. Maybe I can influence it a little bit more. Here's a video featuring El Paso. Maybe it will change your mind. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqrr-N4ue0c

Everday I'm Shufflin'

Now that there's a pretty large playlist of Mellow Dice songs on Spotify, I'm changing this over to Spotify radio. So what comes up in the Mellow Dice playlist radio? 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover by Paul Simon. This song was written after Paul's divorce with his wife, Peggy. This song hit #1 on the Canadian and the US charts. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG-0BWLybIQ

What Do You See?

I was thinking about what to post on here, when this song came up in Spotify: Time by Hanz Zimmer from the Inception soundtrack. It's arguably one of the greatest soundtrack pieces of all time. Why? First, open the link to the song and pause the video. (Unless it's an ad. Skip the ad first.) Now put in your headphones and turn the volume up as loud as you dare. Now clear your mind as best as you can. Now click play and close your eyes. This may not do much for you, but for others it's wonderful. Be sure to vote in the poll over to the right!!

Same Song, Different Meaning.

This may seem weird, but when I was about seven years old, Johnny Cash scared me to death. He just looked kinda...creepy. I never thought I would enjoy one of his songs, and in a way I didn't for a while. Because this isn't actually his song. You've probably heard it before, it's called Hurt. The original version is by Nine Inch Nails. I love this song because it seems like it has two different meanings depending on who's singing it. Both songs are about depression, but from different view points. The Nine Inch Nails version sounds a bit creepier because it is. Their version sounds like a man who is depressed and is cutting himself and considering suicide. That's where the main line, "I will make you hurt," comes in. He'll find a way to make you miss him, somehow. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prDoGmY5kj8
Johnny Cash seems to have a different take on it. His version is a little faster with guitar and piano as the main instruments. With him, it sounds like an old man who's full of regret. Especially the line, " try to kill it all away, but I remember everything." Check out his version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ahHWROn8M0
Which one do you like better? Is there a cover song that you'd like to see on here? Let us know in the comments!!! Also, don't forget to vote in the poll this week.

Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Fire!

The Miami Heat have done it again! The Heat beat the spurs 95-88 to close out the NBA Finals. What does this have to do with music? Well I decided if the Heat won I would share with you this Jerry Lee Lewis classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IjgZGhHrYY If San Antonio would have won I would have introduced you to a little SRV but we'll have to wait for that some other time.Congrats Miami!

I Leave You With This...

The Raconteurs have a pretty popular song out called Steady As She Goes. It's really catchy and awesome, trust me. This song's a little bit slower, though. It's called Together. I'll let you take a lucky guess what it's about. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFBZFcjiCU8
What do you think? Do you like it? Hate it? Heard it before? Let us know in the comments!!

(Almost) Every Day I'm Shufflin'

Today I went to Pandora and the next genre on the list was one I've been waiting anxiously for: Alternative Rock. So what was the first song to show up? It's called Not Your Fault by AWOLnation. The song reached #18 on the 2012 Alternative Rock Songs chart. It was originally released as a download off of their website, and then later it came out with the album Megalithic Symphony.
