Cover Up

Some bands are made famous by certain songs. Some songs are made famous by certain bands. But what if that song wasn't an original? That's the case with Jimi Hendrix. If you know any Hendrix at all, you've probably heard of All Along the Watchtower. It's a really popular song of his, but here's something I didn't know until last night: it's not actually his song. That's right, it's actually a Bob Dylan song. Dylan released in in November of 1968, and Hendrix released it on September of the same year. So how is it a cover? Dylan started recording the song November of 1967, and finished in January of '68. Hendrix got a hold of the song and asked Dylan if he could cover it, and he just got it out there faster. Until next time, roll the Mellow Dice and hope for Midnight.
