The original Smoke on the Water

Ever wondered how some bands come up with their songs? Well check this out 'cause we got the answer. We'll start with one of my favorites. Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. This song has one of the most iconic guitar riffs of all time, but where did all begin? Flashback to December 4th 1971. Deep Purple was setting up a mobile recording studio in Montruex, Switzerland. That evening Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention were playing a concert a local casino. During the song King Kong, "some stupid with a flare gun" set the casino on fire. As the casino was being burned to the ground, the smoke drifted over Lake Geneva which inspired bass guitarist Roger Glover to come up with the line, "smoke on the water and fire in the sky." Now that you know the origin, do you listen to the song differently? Can you hear the story unfold in the lyrics? Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUwEIt9ez7M
