Psy Wasn't the First

June 15th 2013. Maybe nothing great is happening to you today, and maybe it is. But it's still a great day. Why? 1951 Steve Walsh, lead singer and songwriter for the band Kansas was born in Missouri. 1957 Elvis Presley's song All Shook Up debuts in the UK before the USA after advance copies were sent to US troops in Europe, who then gave them to British DJs. 1964 After a battle with tonsillitis, Ringo Starr rejoins the Beatles much to everyone's displeasure. 1970 Jimi Hendrix opens up Electric Lady Studios where several bands feel intimidated by recording in a studio opened by Jimi Hendrix.1993 Ray Charles becomes the first person to have an album on the Billboard Charts six decades in a row with his album, My World. But back in 1963 something very strange happened. A guy in Japan named Kyu Sakamoto becomes the first, and only Japanese singer to land a spot at #1 on the charts in the US with the song Sukiyaka. Which is also the name of a Japanese stew. So here's Sakamoto with Sukiyaka https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUA-DcW1lFc

Until next time, roll the Mellow Dice and hope for Midnight.
